Residents in Falmouth blocked roads and demonstrated earlier today, as the protested last night’s shooting of four men in Falmouth Gardens by the police. The police report that the four, including two 17 year old male twin brothers, were shot dead after they engaged a police patrol in a shootout. A fifth man allegedly escaped, and the police say they recovered two firearms following the incident. The men have been identified as Glendon Gordon, Glenroy Gordon, Patrick Cunningham (a taxi operator) and Robert Brown (aka Gussie).

Residents however are claiming that there was no shoot out, and that the police simply drove up, blocked the motor vehicle that the men were in, and opened fire on them. They allege that the police fired, even as the men begged for mercy.

The police’s Bureau of Special Investigations has reportedly been called in to investigate the matter.

Today’s Clovis cartoon (below) which was featured in the Chat magazine, speaks to yesterday’s ‘all out battle’ between police and gunmen in the Hannah Town and Denham Town areas of Kingston. Three policemen were shot and injured, and two gunmen were killed during the incident. The cartoon also implies a relationship between the incident and Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke (aka Prezi … alleged ‘Don’ of the nearby Tivoli community), as the cartoon shows a woman running and screaming that they’ve come for ‘Pres’. Coke is at the centre of an ongoing dispute between the Jamaican and the U.S. Governments, as the U.S. has sought to extradite him to face a number of drug and gun-related charges, while the Jamaican government has declined to do so at this time.

17 year old Carlton Grant, son of popular dancehall deejay Spragga Benz, was fatally shot during an alleged shoot-out with the police in Downtown Kingston yesterday.

The Constabulary Communication Network reported that about 11:50 p.m. last night, members of a police party were on patrol along Church Street when two men were seen on a bicycle. They were signaled to stop and they complied. However, one of the men pulled a gun and fired at the police. The police returned fire and the men ran. The area was searched and Grant was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A .45 semi-automatic pistol was allegedly taken from him.

The police’s Bureau of Special Investigation has however been called in to probe the shooting. Contrary to the official police report on the matter, residents and eyewitnesses claim that he had both hands in the air while being approached by the police, and that he was killed in cold blood.
