Today’s Gleaner has an outrageous story about a man who worked as a policeman at the Mt Salem Police Station in Montego Bay for six months, carrying an M16, a legitimate police badge, ID and denim uniform, patrolled the streets of Montego Bay and fooled all his colleagues and superiors into believing that he was actually a policeman.

How can you get away with such an impersonation for such a long time? He is Courtney Grayson of Hendon, Norwood in St. James, and he has been arrested and charged for impersonating a police officer and unlawful possession of property. See the full story here.

In what is said to be the third such incident in recent times, a man has been arrested in the Half-Way Tree division for impersonating a police officer.

Charged with impersonating an officer and simple robbery is Ricardo Walker, otherwise called ‘Ricky’, a 27-year-old paralegal of a Kintyre Road, Kingston 6, address. According to the police reports, on December 13, 2008, at about 7:40 p.m., in Clock Tower Plaza , Half-Way-Tree, the accused man, posing as a policeman, approached the complainant and accused him of being involved in a bus robbery.

The accused reportedly held his waist as though he had a gun, and dragged the complainant by the waist to Waterloo Road. It is alleged that he threatened to kill the complainant, and then proceeded to rob him of J$10,000 and a cellular phone valued at J$3,500. He then told the complainant to run.

A report was made to the police and the area was searched. The accused was pointed out by the complainant and held by the police in the Half-Way-Tree Square. None of the stolen items were however recovered.

He will appear in court soon.
