According to police reports, Constable Chisholm and the civilian – Gawayne Lewis – were at a dance at Albion just after 1:30 a.m. when Mr. Lewis got into an argument with some men who were attempting to steal his car. Constable Chisholm reportedly intervened but the men pulled weapons and shot both men. Both men were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where Constable Chisholm was pronounced dead, and Lewis later died while undergoing treatment.

The policeman’s service pistol as well his personal firearm were reportedly stolen by the gunmen.

National Security Minister Senator Dwight Nelson is expressing sorrow at the incident, and in condemning the attack he applauded the policeman’s bravery.
