Clovis cartoon showing Police Commissioner Owen Ellington’s annoyance at Reverend Al Miller’s attempt to deliver Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke directly to the U.S. Embassy, instead of to the local police. Coke had been a fugitive for almost a month, and was being driven by Miller when their vehicle was stopped along the Mandela Highway. Coke was arrested on the spot, and Rev. Miller was later charged with harbouring a fugitive and perverting the course of justice.

It references recent happenings, where the police issued a list of wanted men (alleged gangsters), and several of these alleged gangsters turned themselves in almost immediately, possibly due to the no-nonsense approach that Jamaica’s police and soldiers adopted as they sought to rid Western Kingston of gangsters and gunmen.

Former Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields has been very vocal in recent times about the security forces’ recent battles with criminal elements in West Kingston and elsewhere across the island. In today’s Jamaica Observer newspaper, cartoonist Clovis’ pokes fun at Shields, basically implying that he didn’t do much before, and now has a lot of talk since he is no longer a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Jamaica’s Attorney General, Dorothy Lightbourne, has now signed the extradition order against Tivoli Gardens area leader, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, and Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn yesterday secured the warrant for his arrest which should now be in the hand’s of the Constabulary’s Fugitive Apprehension Team. Today’s Clovis cartoon in the Jamaica Observer newspaper shows the police serving the warrant in the mailbox of the Prime Minister,Bruce Golding, as it is alleged that Coke has no fixed address.

A recent Las May cartoon in the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper, shows a policeman ticketing Prime Minister Bruce Golding, who has crashed his vehicle into a light pole of a scandal called “Manatt”. The ‘driva’ is a reference to a name that Prime Minister Golding gave himself while campaign during the lead up to Jamaica’s 2007 general elections. “Manatt” refers to the controversy surrounding the engagement of U.S. law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips to lobby the United States (US) government on the extradition matter involving alleged crime lord Christopher Coke.
