A special constable attached to the Flying Squad in Kingston, is reportedly in police custody at this time, after he allegedly shot and killed a colleague at a dance off Waltham Park Road in Kingston last night. Dead is Detective Constable Shawn Howe of the Clarendon Police Division. A release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force indicates that the special constable is to be interrogated soon.

It’s reported that the policemen, who did not know each other, were at a dance on D’Aguilar Road off Waltham Park Road in the wee hours this morning, and while it’s not fully clear what transpired, both policemen reportedly pulled their weapons and Corporal Howe was hit during an exchange of gunfire between the two. He was later pronounced dead.

The Bureau of Special Investigations says it has already collected statements from some persons who attended the dance, however, it is encouraging others who may have witnessed the incident to call 922-7277 to provide statements.

A police corporal, 51 year old Ansel Lloyd, became the second Jamaican policeman to be murdered in 2011, when he was found shot to death yesterday morning, near his home in the usually quiet rural community of Sunrise Road in Sandy Bay, Clarendon. Reports indicate that five shots were heard in the community on Friday night, and that upon daybreak yesterday morning, body was discovered on a dirt track a short distance away from his home. He had been shot and his 9mm Browning pistol stolen.

Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington, commented on the murder, stating that “it was another grim reminder of the dangers members of the security forces face on a daily basis while doing their sworn duty to serve and protect.” He said that the murder of Lloyd was totally unprovoked, and that his demise represents an act of cowardice on the part of criminals who are finding it difficult to perpetrate their evil deeds. Ellington added that he had given instructions for the perpetrators to be hunted down and brought to justice swiftly. The commissioner has also offered condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Lloyd.

Detective Corporal Wayne Llewellyn (pictured at right), who was attached to the Accident Reconstruction Unit in Area 3 (Manchester, St Elizabeth and Clarendon), reportedly shot and killed four members of his family, shot and injured his wife, then turned the gun on himself. This reportedly happened in the quiet district of Three Hills, St. Mary at approximately 6 a.m. this morning.

The deceased have been identified as 79-year-old Rachel Brown (Llewellyn’s mother-in-law), her husband 73-year-old Voldy Brown (Llewellyn’s father-in-law), Fitzroy Townsend (Llewellyn’s brother-in-law), and 16-year-old Jorgihan Flynn (Llewellyn’s step-daughter). Lewellyn also shot his 40-year-old wife Joanne in the neck. She has since been hospitalised in critical condition.

Reports indicate that Detective Corporal Llewellyn was recently transferred from St. Mary to Manchester, and that his wife and stepdaughter went with him. It is said that his wife and stepdaughter returned to St. Mary, after the couple’s relationship soured.

According to reports, Llewellyn entered the family house through a back door early this morning, armed with his gun. He first shot dead his parents-in-law in their room. His brother-in-law ran on seeing him, but was also shot dead. Corporal Llewellyn then entered Jorgihan’s room and shot her, before shooting his wife in her room. The cop reportedly went a short distance to where another set of family members reside, and demanded to be let in. However, those residents barricaded themselves inside. Llewellyn then reportedly shot himself.

Robinson was later found with a single gunshot wound to the forehead. His licensed firearm was stolen, and the Toyota Altis motor car which Robinson drove to the guesthouse was also missing.

Detectives from the Portmore CIB who are investigating, and asking persons who may have information on Robinson’s killers to contact Police Control at 119, Operation Kingfish at 811 or Crime Stop at 311.

29-year-old Special Constable Dwayne Jackson of the Island Special Constabulary Force, became the 17th Jamaican policeman killed since the start of the year, when he was reportedly ambushed and shot while leaving a residence in the vicinity of Florida Avenue and Jackson Place in Independence City, St. Catherine yesterday. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 am, and his attackers reportedly escaped.

Investigators are theorising that robbery may not have been the motive, as Special Constable Jackson’s service weapon was not taken by his attackers. They also reportedly fled leaving behind cash, which was in the slain policeman’s pocket.

Of the 17 policemen killed this year, thirteen were murdered, two were killed by friendly fire, one drowned while another died after being mowed down by a motor vehicle.

A policeman was reportedly shot and killed by a fellow police officer, after they had responded to a call on Lady Musgrave road in Kingston yesterday. The dead policeman has been identified as Constable Floyd Barrett of the Motorised Patrol Division.

According to reports, Barrett and a colleague were part of a police team that was conducting an operation on Lady Musgrave Road shortly after midday yesterday. It is not immediately clear what transpired at the scene, but shots were fired and the Constable, who was in uniform, was hit. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. It is believed that he was shot by his own colleague.

The Police High Command has reportedly ordered an investigation into the circumstances which led to the fatal shooting of Constable Barrett, and detectives from the Bureau of Special Investigations are said to be probing the matter. In keeping with standard operating procedure, the policeman involved in the shooting has been removed from front line duty, his hands swabbed and the firearm seized for ballistic testing.

The police’s Bureau of Special Investigations are reportedly investigating last night’s shooting death of taxi operator Shaun Marshall in Montego Bay. Marshall was shot and killed in an alleged shoot-out with the police, some time after he had reportedly attacked a police inspector who had attempted to seize his vehicle.

According to reports, the policeman attempted to confiscate Marshall’s motor car for alleged breaches of the Road Traffic Act. Marshall then reportedly hit the inspector with a blunt object, causing him to fall, and then sped off in his motor vehicle. Marshall was then reportedly accosted by a police team near the Barnett Street station, when a male passenger in his vehicle allegedly fired at the police. Marshall, the police said, was hit during the ensuing shoot-out.

A primary school student and an elderly man were also reportedly injured during the alleged gunfight. The armed passenger, who the police believe was shot and injured, reportedly escaped through the nearby Montego Bay Transport Centre.
