Two Persons Sentenced To Prison For Conspiring To Murder A Police Inspector

Two persons, 34-year-old May Pen businesswoman Althea Morgan-Carr and 34-year-old taxi driver Stephen Smith, have been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment each, for conspiracy to murder Inspector Lorraine Elleston. The two had been in custody for over five-and-a-half years awaiting trial.

The court heard that between January and February 25, 2005, Morgan-Carr and Smith conspired with others to murder Inspector Lorraine Elleston, because the policewoman had charged Morgan-Carr with possession of cocaine and attempting to export cocaine in September 2004. A third co-accused – Calgette Gilbert of May Pen – was freed after the court upheld a no-case submission, while a fourth co-accused – Gregory Thomas – was shot dead in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, last year.

Last month, a Home Circuit Court Jury convicted Morgan-Carr and Smith, and they were sentenced yesterday.
