Police Constable Arrested On Corruption Charge

A police constable assigned to the Kingston East Division, was arrested yesterday for alleged breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act. He was reportedly arrested following a sting operation that was carried out by the constabulary’s Anti-Corruption Branch. His name is being withheld at this time.

According to reports, on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at about 3:00 pm, the driver of a bus was involved in a motor vehicle accident along the Sir Florizel Glasspole Highway in Kingston, and later reported it to the Kingston East police. It is alleged that the constable requested a sum of $6,000 in order not to prosecute him for certain breaches of the Road Traffic Act. The JCF’s Anti-Corruption Branch was informed that arrangements were made for the money to be paid to the constable, after which a sting operation was set up, and the constable arrested.

He is in police custody at this time, and a case file is being prepared for submission to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling.
