Two Police Killed, Six Injured Along Mountain View Avenue

The Constabulary Communication Network is reporting that two policemen were killed and six others shot and injured during a shootout with gunmen on Mountain View Avenue, Kingston 2, last night. The identities of the dead cops have not been released, but one is reportedly a sergeant from the Motorized Patrol Division, and the other a constable from the East Kingston Division.

According to police reports, at approximately 11:30 last night, a woman turned up at the Rockfort Police Station and reported that she had been shot while driving along Mountain View Avenue. She told the police that another motorist had also been attacked by armed men. Police from the East Kingston Division went to the assistance of the motorist, when they reportedly came under sustained gunfire from gunmen on Mountain View Avenue in the vicinity of the Excelsior High School. Two cops were reportedly hit during this exchange.

Other police officers came to their assistance, and they were apparently trapped and pinned down under sustained gunfire by the gunmen. Six cops were shot during this exchange. The situation was eventually brought under control, and the injured policemen taken to hospital where the two died.

Of the six who were injured, two were discharged, while four remain hospitalized in stable condition.
