Residents Protest Police Killing Of Reputed Area Don
Tension was said to be high in the tough Portmore communities of Newlands and Naggo Head last night, following the police killing of a reputed area don, Dante Morris, who was said to be involved in the slaying of Corporal Miguel Cuffe earlier yesterday.
According to police reports, at about 11 a.m. yesterday morning, they went on Whyte Lane in Naggo Head in search of persons believed to be involved in Cuffe’s murder. When they approached a certain house on Whyte Lane, they were reportedly greeted with gunfire. They returned fire, and Morris was hit. An illegal gun was reportedly seized at the scene.
Residents however are denying the police version of the incident, and claim that Morris was asleep when he was shot. Residents blocked sections of the main road in Naggo Head with debris in protest, but these roadblocks were quickly removed by the police.

Good day . My name is KerryAnn Ashley, mother of O’Shane morris whom is the son of Ezron Morris. Ezron was brutally murdered yesterday in his home by law enforcement agents in Portmore St. Catherine. It appears to me that sufficient investigations isn’t a priority to police officers in jamaica. The motto of shoot first and ask questions later seems to still exists. It is a tragedy of how that officer was murdered in south boro and is an act that should not have been. The fact that the police went to whyte lane, Naggo Head yesterday to kill is really disturbing. They had no intensions of investigating but to execute a man they assume executed a fellow officer. If the police act like mercinaries, how do they expect civilians to act. I dont condone the killing of any person .police or civilian, because we all have a job to do but there should be procedures that should be followed. Reporters seem to glorify an officer murdered without verifying is affiliations and condemned a man murdered in his bed becuase the police claims he initiated a gun fight. Did anyone follow up to see what happenned to the brother they have locked up and trying to put a gun charge on. Did any reporter try to question the other victim, whom is supposedly in spanish town hospital. In my opinion investigations in jamaica doesn’t exists on any level , in any department or sector.Every individuals life means something to another. The police play guessing games with peoples lives. The time frame between the discovery of the murdered policeman and the murder of my childs father doesn’t appear to be enough time to conduct an adequate investigation.Going off hearsay without proof shouldn’t be enough to kill a man. At this point only the police version was given because a dead man tells no tales and the truth we may never know. Before you can print a story there are procedures you must follow, why isnt that a requirement for these police officers. In closing two executions occurred yesterday the 22nd dayof February 2010. My son grieve for his father as do i. He was a father ,a brother , a son ,mostly a human being and didn’t have to murdered inhis bed, dragged out his house face down, thrown in a police vehicle before anyone can see, then disposed of at the nearest morgue or as they say in jamaica dead house. Everyone’s existence in this life should mean more than that. My deepest condolence to the family of police officer cuffe.
Thank you for your time.
