Gun In Police Custody Mysteriously Makes Its Way Back Into The Hands Of Gunmen

Detectives from the Anti-Corruption Branch and the Inspectorate of the Constabulary reportedly launched an intense probe last night, into how a pistol (a 9mm Beretta) which was handed over to the Police Armoury and Stores for destruction, mysteriously found its way back into the underworld, and was seized from two gunmen yesterday.

According to reports, the police held two men and recovered the illegal weapon (and a magazine containing five 9mm rounds) along Sunrise Crescent, off Red Hills Road in Kingston yesterday. Ballistics checks on the pistol and found that it was taken from a man in St. Ann in 2002. The man was found guilty and convicted for illegal possession of a firearm in 2003. The pistol was sent to the Police Armoury and Stores for destruction, but somehow found its way back on the streets in the hands of criminals, and was once again recovered yesterday.
