Armadale Fallout – Four Policemen Interdicted
Three police constables from the St. Ann Police Division, and one police corporal from the Police Area 2 Headquarters, have been interdicted (placed on three-quarters salary) for their roles in the fire at the Armadale Juvenile Correctional Centre Armadale, that killed seven wards of the state in May 2009. The interdiction notices were served and became effective yesterday.
A file has reportedly been prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a ruling.
Immediately following the fire last year, several survivors blamed the police for the tragedy, and just this week, the Commissioner of the enquiry into the tragedy assessed that police personnel had lied to the commission.
