Acting Commissioner Ellington Warns Change Resisters

Speaking last night on the topic ‘Leadership in transforming the Jamaica Constabulary Force’ during a leadership forum at the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Staff College at Twickenham Park, St. Catherine, Acting Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington has warned members of the gazetted rank who continue to “undermine” the force and resist change in order to maintain the “status quo” that they could soon find themselves in the unemployment line.

According to him, there will also be no place in the force for those who are “unwilling to learn new skills” and “improve themselves”. “…[They] are not going to be a part of the organisation,” he said.

Acting Commissioner Ellington said the force had already identified replacements in the academically qualified and capable recruits whom he intends to accelerate through the ranks of the JCF upon completion of their training. The top cop also spoke of 200 “degreed persons” marked for training. He said the JCF stands to benefit greatly from the service of these new members, some of whom, he said, were teachers and former managers in the private sector.

He also said that there would be “displacements” during the acceleration process, but was quick to point out that “displacements” would not in all cases spell dismissal, but transfers and opportunities for retraining.
