Tears For Special Corporal Anthony Simpson

Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland – Grief filled the Seventh-day Adventist Church as family, friends and colleagues of Special corporal Anthony Simpson gathered to pay respect to the man they all loved.

The church, which is located on Savanna-la-Mar High School compound, was unable to contain the scores of mourners, and many had to stay on the outside.

Throughout the service, Commander Lurline Williams from the Island Special Constabulary Force Counselling Unit was kept busy comforting the bereaved.

Fifty-six year old Simpson was killed in cold blood by three ruthless criminals as he and his 25 year old son sat in his car in an area known as Station Road, Little London Westmoreland on August 2nd at about 12:15am.

The criminals robbed the policeman of his firearm before shooting him and his son. The special Corporal died on the spot while his son was taken to hospital and admitted.

Pastor Howard Morgan of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, in his sermon, painted a gloomy picture of the nation in which nine cops have been gunned down by criminals since the start of the year.

“Our country is in a terrible state,” said the pastor. “It is a sad day in the life of the country when the guardians of the law are themselves targeted. If those who are uploading the law are killed, then what will become of our country?” he asked.

According to Morgan, prophetic scriptures warned of much violence towards “the last days” and as such, he warned that in future more police will be slain in the line of duty.

“Weapons will not solve crime in this country,” he said. “It does not matter how much policemen and women are placed on the front-line, crime will still rise to the highest peak. If I am going to be true to the Word of God, The Bible says, know this also that in the last days perilous times shall come.”
