Alleged Corrupt Policeman Remanded
Constable Anthony Davey of the Waterford Police Station in St. Catherine, appeared yesterday in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on a charge of corruption, and was remanded in custody by the Resident Magistrate who told his lawyer that the charges were far too serious for bail to be considered.
Allegations are that some time in July of this year, Davey arrested the complainant for breaches of the Rent Restriction Act. After the complainant got bail, Davey reportedly made arrangements for the complainant to pay him $15,000 in order for the case to be dropped. The complainant made a report to the Anti-Corruption Branch, and Davey was arrested as he was collecting the money from the complainant during a sting operation that was set up at the Portmore Mall in St. Catherine.
Davey will be remanded in custody until the trial date of November 11.
