Working Group To Help Clear Backlog Of Police Cases

Head of the Anti-Corruption Branch, Assistant Commissioner Justin Felice, announced yesterday, at a press conference at Eden Gardens in Kingston, that a working group has been set up that will assist the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to clear the backlog of police cases that are currently awaiting rulings. Included in the working group are representatives from the Attorney General’s Office as well as the chief justice.

The Anti-Corruption Branch has arrested 31 police officers since the start of this year, while 20 officers have been interdicted and 6 suspended. 57 rulings (on cases involving police officers) have been received from the DPP since the start of this year, but there is still a tremendous backlog of cases awaiting rulings.
