Detective Sergeant Harold ‘Duke’ Anderson Laid To Rest

Forty-eight year old Detective Sergeant Harold ‘Duke’ Anderson was laid to rest on Saturday, June 20th in Clarksonville, St. Ann. In the final months of his life, he was stricken with colon cancer, but lost his valiant battle with the disease after surgery and a hospital stay.

To many who knew him, he was simply Andy and from his days in high school, he was a calm and somewhat quiet soul. It was not surprising to hear him being remembered in the service at the Clarksonville Baptist Church as a dedicated father, a peacemaker, hard-working, gentle, loyal friend, one who held his point firmly, a diligent worker and committed to service.

As if to drive these points home, Pastor Hubert Hall in his sermon said how we live our lives will determine how we are remembered in death. He used as his text the words from the Bible that exhort Christians to number their days so they can apply their hearts to wisdom.

“What is the purpose of your lives?” Pastor Hall asked the congregation.

He urged them to understand that it is important to be thankful each day of life. “The quality of your lives is important because there are no guarantees and we would have missed our purpose if we do not fulfill the will that God intended for us.”

Anderson was buried with full constabulary honours, including a 21-gun salute. Tributes came from the Commissioner of Police, the Police Federation, the Holmwood Past Students’ Association, the Island Special Constabulary Force Choir and the Westmoreland Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force where he served. He is survived by four children, siblings, best friend Courtnie Logan and numerous colleagues and associates. He was interred in the church cemetery.
