Dear Editor,
It is ironic that the controversy over Adventist police working on Saturday should come so soon after the appointment of the former president of the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Dr Patrick Allen, to the position of governor general.
Seventh-day Adventists should understand that the right to religious freedom is not the same as the right to work in a job that is in conflict with the person’s religious beliefs, since the individual is not forced to accept the job. The individual may either ask his employer for reasonable accommodation in the interest of himself and the employer, or resign from the position if a mutual agreement cannot be reached – a position that the Commissioner of Police Hardley Lewin has publicly stated … more

Persons should be able to exercise their right to worship and so I do agree that persons that are Sabbath keepers should not be force to work on a Saturday.in the same breath I also believe they should not be at a disadvantage because of this
