Two More Police On Corruption Charges
Two more policemen have been arrested for breaches of the Corruption Act. Detective Sergeant Winston Pollack and Constable Tyrone Bryan were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch on “reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act and conspiracy to commit a criminal offence”. They are accused of selling a fake Jamaican passport to a foreigner.
According to reports, in February of this year, the complainant (who is the proprietor of a supermarket / wholesale in St Catherine and holder of a work permit but not entitled to a Jamaican passport), paid Pollack J$115,000 to obtain a Jamaican passport. Pollack then reportedly conspired with Bryan, to whom the money (or some of it), was paid, to employ another individual to secure the passport. The passport was eventually obtained and handed over to the complainant.
Earlier this week, the foreign national visited the passport office where he used the passport as a means of identification in applying for a passport for his daughter. Immigration officials then discovered that the passport was a fake. An investigation eventually led to the arrest of the two policemen who are now in custody, awaiting an interview with the police in the presence of their attorneys.
