June 5 in Jamaican Police History
June 5, 1975 – an advertisement is placed in the day’s Gleaner newspaper:
JOIN THE POLICE FORCE & HELP THE PEOPLE IN YOUR COMMUNITY.
Requirements: A Sound education and able to pass a set examination, physically fit; between the ages 18-30 years; at least 5ft 7inches in height; good character.
Salary: a minimum of $3,000 to a maximum of $4,800 for a constable and a minimum of $6,700 to a maximum of $8,040 for an inspector. Under the accelerated promotion scheme, a constable can become an inspector in four years.
