Jamaica To Get New Traffic Ticket System
Speaking yesterday at the National Consultation on Crime forum in Montego Bay, Commissioner of Police Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin said that a new traffic ticket system is expected to come on stream here in Jamaica in September of this year.
It’s widely known that Jamaica’s present traffic ticket system is flawed, with corrupt police being able to manipulate it and motorists able to escape scrutiny despite having numerous outstanding tickets for various offences.
When fully operational, the new traffic ticketing system will reportedly see traffic police personnel being outfitted with hand-held electronic pads and similar systems on their motorbikes or in their motor cars. Once data is fed into the system, the offender will be issued with an electronically generated ticket printed on the spot, while the same information will be fed into a central database.
