Gunmen Trade Bullets, Police Stay Out Of It
With regard to this news item, some might say ‘Only in Jamaica’; but the police reportedly stood by and stayed out of it, as heavily armed gunmen from the 100 Lane and Park Lane communities off Red Hills Road in St Andrew fired shots at each other in a deadly pre-dawn firefight yesterday morning which left one unidentified man (believed to be a gun man) dead.
Head of anti-crime at the Constant Spring Police Station, Deputy Superintendent Altermoth ‘Parra’ Campbell, reportedly said it was good judgment on their part to stay out of it as if the police had intervened, maybe many more would be dead. More than 100 shell casings from AK47 and M16 assault rifles, shotguns and 9mm pistols were taken from the scene by the police who also said that residents had previously removed many casings as well
