Special Sergeant To Answer To Corruption Charges

Special Sergeant Hurbert Richards, 58, the sub-officer in charge of the Darling Street Police Station, would have retired from the Jamaica Constabulary Force in just another two months. However, he has now found himself on the other side of the law, as he was arrested and charged last Friday (May 22) with corruption charges as a result of a sting operation that was conducted by the Police’s Anti-corruption unit.

Allegations are that a vehicle was seized, and that members of the Anti-Corruption Branch received reports that Richards had collected money in exchange for the release of the vehicle. He was subsequently held during a sting operation. He appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday and was offered bail in the sum of J$150,000. He is to be tried on July 27.
