Jamaican Police As Judge, Jury & Executioner?

Today’s Clovis cartoon in the Jamaica Observer newspaper shows Minister of National Security, Dwight Nelson, anointing the policeman as Judge, Jury and Executioner. The cartoon is a play on recent controversial statements by Nelson about Jamaica’s war against crime causing ‘collateral damage’ and that the police should not have to pay in those circumstances. The cartoon also depicts the grave of Janice Allen, probably one of the more popular examples of collateral damage here in Jamaica, a young girl who was shot and killed by the police in 2000 during a firefight between the policemen and gunmen.
