Commissioner Says Job First, Religion After
Police Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin yesterday lashed out at police officers who he said were giving preference to their religion over their policing duties. Lewin was responding to questions put forward by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) after his address to the 66th annual conference of the Jamaica Police Federation at the Starfish Resort in Trelawny. His statement was prompted when a policeman pointed out that a detectives’ examination originally scheduled to be held on a Saturday had been rescheduled to facilitate Sabbath (Seventh Day Adventist) worshippers.
He said “if you are so religious that the occasional Saturday creates a conflict, then you have a problem.” He also stressed that work should not be compromised in the name of religion, particularly where there were clear cases of abuse.

IN AN ORGANISATION THAT THEY SAY IS RIFE WITH CORRUPTION IT IS QIUTE UNFORTUNATE THAT THOSE WHO STAND UP FOR THEIR RELIGION SHOULD BE PERSECUTED. THEIR ARE SO MANY MAN MADE THINGS THAT ARE WRONG WITH THIS ‘FORCE’ THAT RELIGION IS THE LEAST OF THE ISSUES.IN AN ALREADY CORRUPT SYSTEM ,GET RID OF THE FEW WHO STILL HOLD MORALS DEAR TO THEM AND TELL ME WHAT YOU HAVE LEFT? REMEMBER MR. COMMISSIONER YOU MAY BE THE HEAD OF THE JCF BUT YOU DONT HOLD THE WHOLE WORLD IN YOUR HANDS.
