7th Day Adventist Church Disappointed With Lewin’s Statements
The Seventh-Day Adventist Church says it’s disappointed with the recent statements by Commissioner of Police Hardley Lewin that police personnel whose religion conflicts with their job should resign.
Pastor Desmond Robinson, the director of public affairs and religious liberty in the West Union Conference of Seventh Day Adventists, believes that the commissioner did not show enough understanding of the matter. He says the church understands the challenges that some employers have with fitting Sabbath worshipers into their work schedule, but that tolerance needs to be observed. He also said that religion and other aspects of the economy and society have to co-exist and that people must be free to exercise their religious right, and cautioned the commissioner not to undermine the moral fibre that is needed in the security forces.
