Policeman Injured in Shoot Out
A policeman was shot and injured last night during a shoot out in the Cassava Piece area of Kingston 8. His assailant, identified as ‘Pedro’ of Cassava Piece, was later shot and killed and an illegal firearm seized.
Police reports indicated that at about 9 p.m. last night, the policeman was walking along the Gully Bank in Cassava Piece when he was approached by two men, one of whom pulled a gun and opened fire hitting him. He pulled his service pistol and returned fire hitting ‘Pedro’ who still managed to escape in the area.
A team of police went in pursuit, and when accosted a shootout ensued during which he was killed. A Glock-17 pistol containing seven 9mm rounds with serial number MR201 was taken from him. The policeman was taken to hospital where he was admitted.
