Child Killed With Policewoman’s Gun – Probe Intensifies

The probe into what has been reported as the accidental shooting of a 5 year old by his two year old brother with their aunt’s police pistol is intensifying, and investigators have reportedly swabbed the hands of all the people who were present at the house in Clarendon where the child was killed.

Forensic tests are reportedly being done to find out how the child was shot. They are also awaiting the results of an autopsy on the child’s body.

Under Jamaican law, the child who is alleged to have fired the fatal shot is too young to be held criminally responsible for his brother’s death, but if investigations prove that the policewoman was negligent in securing the gun, she may face a charge of manslaughter. The case will likely be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling.
