Policemen Threaten Journalist Follow Up – DPP Recommends Departmental Action

Just last month, Assistant Business Editor at the Jamaica Observer newspaper – Mr. Julian Richardson – reported that two policemen threatened to kill him, this after he refused to buy them refreshments in exchange for dropping the charges for a traffic offense which they were alleging he was guilty of. Now, the Director of Public Prosecutions – Paula Llewellyn – has ruled that there is insufficient evidence to lay criminal charges against the two policemen, and has thus recommended that “departmental action” be taken against the policemen.

The DPP reportedly said “There was insufficient evidence to ground [any] case by the prosecution [against the officers] but the particular conduct of the officers certainly requires departmental action.
