Ex-Policeman Faces Impersonation Charge
A former police constable who was dismissed from the Jamaica Constabulary Force some time last year, was arrested last Friday (March 27) on suspicion of impersonation of a police officer. It is expected that the unnamed former policeman will be formally charged today.
According to police reports, on March 24 of this year, the alleged fake cop went to the Gun Court in Kingston, and presented himself as a serving police officer and upon oath gave sworn character evidence on behalf of an accused man who was on trial for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. The accused man was subsequently freed of the charge.
Officers at the court were however aware that he was dismissed from the force, and alerted a senior officer. Last Friday they went to his home and took him into custody. His lawyer is reportedly arguing along the lines that his client is still technically a policeman since his dismissal has not yet been gazetted.
