Policeman Murdered
A special constable, Richard Hamilton (34 years old), became the first Jamaican police officer to be murdered in 2009, when gunmen sprayed his motor vehicle with bullets, then set it ablaze yesterday. He was reportedly driving along Woodpecker Avenue in the troubled Cockburn Pen community in Kingston when the incident occurred.
His revolver was reportedly stolen by his killers, but it was later recovered on a nearby road in the community. Yesterday evening, police said that a suspect in the policeman’s murder had turned himself in to the Major Investigation Taskforce and was being questioned. Up to yesterday evening however, the police were still to establish a motive for the murder.
Hamilton was based at the guardroom at the Mobile Reserve, and is survived by two children – a son and a daughter.
