Policeman Cries After Tussle With Taximan
An incident between a policeman and a taximan reportedly occurred along Union Street in Montego Bay at about 11:15 yesterday. It started when the policeman (a constable) and two other policemen spotted a taxi driver parked along Union Street. The constable instructed the driver to bring his documents to him, and he complied.
The policeman then proceeded to write the taximan a ticket, and while doing so he reportedly pointed his pen in the taximan’s face. The taximan apparently pushed his hand away and asked him to desist. It developed into a more serious confrontation, which was broken up by a Sergeant who had come on the scene.
The Sergeant then instructed the taximan to move his car to another spot, and told the constable to continue writing the ticket. The constable then reportedly said something disrespectful to the taximan, who responded with similar words, then later the policeman reportedly grabbed the taximan by the shirt and punched him in the chest. The taximan punched him back and eyewitnesses allege that the policeman then went for his weapon, but was prevented from pulling it by the other officers. At this point, the policeman reportedly burst into tears and was escorted from the scene by his fellow officers.
What a story!
