Policeman Arrested For Soliciting Money
A 36 year old police constable from the Half-Way-Tree police station was arrested yesterday on reasonable suspicion for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.
It’s reported that at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the constable solicited the sum of J$20,000 for the release of a prisoner who was in custody. He subsequently accepted J$5,000 when the original demand was not met. The matter was reported to the Anti-Corruption Branch and a sting operation was carried out. The policeman was held as he was collecting the cash from the complainant.
He was taken into custody pending a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
