Magistrate Gives DPP Til’ Monday
Constable Rushon Hamilton of the Harbour View Police station was in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he faced charges of carnal abuse, indecent assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The Crown (prosecution) made certain submissions that would help to prove the ‘tampering’ aspect of the charges, however they indicated that the main witness (the alleged victim – a 14 year old girl) could not be found (she was reportedly abducted) and so they intended to drop the carnal abuse charge. They argued that bail should still be denied however, as they were afraid that the accused policeman would attempt to interfere with the witnesses. The policeman’s defence team indicated however that he would be willing to leave Kingston and stay in the district in St. Mary where he’s from for the duration of the trial.
Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown has given the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) until next Monday (December
to say what charges they will be pursuing.
