Mark Shields Declines New JCF Contract
As of February 28, 2009, controversial Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields will no longer be a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). According to the Ministry of National Security, Shields has declined the offer of a one-year extension to his contract, which expires on February 28, 2009.
Shields has been on secondment to the Jamaica Constabulary Force from Scotland Yard since March 2005. There has been no official announcement as to his reasons for declining the contract, but police sources have indicated that he may have rejected it because it contained a pay cut and would require him to give up command of the crime portfolio.
