Jamaican Police to Get Armoured Vehicles

Jamaica’s police force and its crime-fighting efforts are expected to get a boost, with the expected arrival of 12 armoured vehicles by July 2009.

Senator Dwight Nelson (Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance & the Public Service) announced recently that cabinet has approved the purchase of the armoured vehicles at a cost of US$3,303,510, and has already made a 50% deposit payment on them.

It is expected that the vehicles will better equip Jamaica’s security forces to overcome roadway obstacles and operate in hostile and dangerous spaces / situations, particularly where officers may be under attack.
