3rd Quarter 2008 Jamaica Crime Statistics
Information released by the police yesterday, showed that at the end of the first nine months of 2008, 1241 persons were murdered, reflecting a 12% jump compared to the same period last year when 1105 were murdered. The gun was used to carry out 82% of the murders.
For the month of September alone, 11 females and 6 children were murdered, compared to 9 women and 4 children in September 2007. Also for the month of September, robberies increased from 99 in 2007 to 237 this year. Major crimes for the month of September went up by more than 50%, and rape has gone up 100% with 64 reported cases in September 2007 compared to 237 in September 2008.
Very sad crime statistics indeed.
